Why Choose Me as Your EMDR Therapist?

In the Santa Barbara area, there are a small number of certified EMDR therapists. I was the second of these certified therapists. What being EMDRIA certified means is that you have gone beyond the required Level One and Level Two training with substantial hours of consultation, both individual and group. You have had a significant number of EMDR clients and your EMDR therapy work has been examined and approved by an EMDRIA certified consultant, plus you have passed an examination on EMDR theory. This should promote confidence in the level of skill and professionalism of certified EMDR therapists.

Beyond my training as an EMDR therapist, I bring 40+ years of clinical experience working with people. My results with EMDR therapy have been consistently positive and rated as outstanding. See for yourself how powerful a method EMDR therapy can be. Call me today.

  • obsessive worry and anxiety
  • depression and negative thoughts
  • disturbing memories
  • performance anxiety
  • eating disorders
  • acute and chronic pain
  • stress reduction

In addition, I have found that the results are long-lasting. None of my clients have had to return to work on the same issue again.

This is not a matter of faith, hope or guesswork. You can tell right in the EMDR therapy session that it is working as your level of distress goes down. You will experience the change yourself.

With EMDR, processing will usually transfer to all instances of a traumatic issue. This means you don't have to work on each instance separately.  The work will often take care of all instances of a traumatic issue at once.

After more than forty years as a therapist with training in a diversity of methods, I have to say that EMDR therapy is unsurpassed in being fast, effective and long-lasting.

Client Comments:

"I couldn't believe how quickly I found relief. Years of pain and upset resolved in one session. Amazing!"   - Lawrence

"What I learned from my EMDR session has seriously changed my outlook and perspective. It was extremely valuable and so very helpful. Even though I went into it being quite the skeptic, I had enough curiosity to be a willing participant and came away with such success, I would highly recommend it to others who have endured trauma in their lives. "  - Ellen

"I am so glad you convinced me to get the EMDR work done. I reap the rewards every day." - Jeff

"After the EMDR session I had a sense of greater resilience and felt as though the gloom which had been surrounding me had lifted. I felt relieved of the 'weight' I had been carrying on my shoulders; I felt lighter. I am very happy to have found a therapist whose experience and insight allows her to "cut to the chase."   - a Grateful Client

"My EMDR was a complete success for me. I was completely astounded by how different I felt after one session. I felt myself let go. All the pressure I felt to do all the things I wanted to do in life subsided. It was the biggest step I could have taken towards a better life. Thank you Dr. Aarons." - D.H. ( Past Client)

What Kinds of Problems Can EMDR Help?

  • post-traumatic stress
  • panic attacks
  • addictions
  • fears and phobias
  • sexual, physical and emotional abuse
  • personality disorders
  • anger issues
  • compulsive behavior that feels out of control

"My Stanford internist, who has done extensive research on the physiological effects of trauma, recommended EMDR as a therapeutic modality to me. Enough data exists now that EMDR’s results are long lasting and superior to medication that she strongly encouraged me to try it. I have been delighted with the powerful benefits of working with Dr. Aarons and her fast track method of EMDR. Both the somatic issues of my complex PTSD disorder as well as the psychological triggers are easing day by day. Along with Dr. Aarons, I have created a new ‘movie’ of my childhood that is generalizing in positive ways to many other areas of my life and relationships with others."  Jackie S., CEO, Philanthropist

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a powerful method of psychotherapy that has helped an estimated two million people of all ages relieve and resolve many different types of psychological distress.

How can EMDR help?

EMDR therapy is the most rapid processing method available today. Most of my clients have been able to resolve one major issue in their lives in a model that includes just ONE EMDR processing session with me: for example, severe depression, social anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, childhood abuse, lack of confidence, relationship issues or chronic pain.

Here's how it works:

After I get to know you and your history and we are ready to proceed with EMDR, we do a one-and-a-half hour preparation session, a two hour processing session, and a one-and-a-half hour follow-up session. So far 80% to 85% of my clients have been able to resolve the issue they were working on in this five hour framework.
